VAST Bhutan, with two eminent artists from Thailand is organizing a high level professional water colour workshop in Thimphu. The workshop is open to all interested people, young and old.
Tutors: Dr. Suchart Vongthong and Sompote Singthong, eminent artists from Thailand.
Venue: VAST Studio, Thimphu.
May 16, 2009, 2 PM to 6 PM: Workshop for students and members of VAST Bhutan.
May 17, 9 AM to 5 PM: Workshop for students and members of VAST Bhutan.
May 19 – 23, 9 AM to 5 PM: Open workshop.
May 24 – 27: Art therapy tour to Phobjikha and Trongsa (camping).
May 28 – 29: Preparation for the exhibition to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of Artistic Connection between Bhutan and Thailand.
May 30: Exhibition.
Due to limited availability of space, only 30 participants will be accepted based on their interests and commitment. Interested people, young and old, who wish to attend the workshop, are requested to fill up the participation forms available at the Royal Thai Consulate, VAST Bhutan, Nazhoen Pelri, YDF and the Artshop Gallery not later than May 11th 2009.
Registration fee for the open workshop, May 19 – 23: Nu 1500 per person.
Registration fee for the Art therapy tour, May 24 – 27: Nu 2500 per person.
– All the related materials can be purchased from VAST Bhutan and Art Shop Gallery at the clock tower square.
– During the course of the workshop, participants have to arrange their own lunch. Tea and snacks will be provided.
– During the art therapy tour, participants must bring their own camping gear. Food will be arranged by VAST.
Dr. Suchart Vonthong visited Bhutan in 2005 with a delegation of Thai artists, writers, singers and cultural experts through BIMSTEC program. This program is a part of the effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand to put into action the people-to-people contact among the BIMSTEC member countries. Dr Suchart held a few informal workshops and discussions with Bhutanese artists as part of the program.
During his second visit in 2006, he conducted a 2-week long workshop on basic visual art, watercolor and art therapy in VAST. He even offered a special water color class to Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck.
Dr. Suchart and Sompote are well known figures in the art world of Thailand and Asia. They teach art to Thai Royal family, bankers, CEOs, medical personnel and young people through organizations such as Six-Point Group, Asian Water color Confederation, Art-Pro art club. Dr. Suchart also founded the Vonthong foundation for needy children and orphans. They have held more than 600 exhibitions globally. They have been teaching art for the last 30 years. In particular, Dr. Suchart is a well known speaker and lecturer at various universities and institutions through out Thailand and other Asian countries.
