The eternal knot has many interpretations such as the eternal wisdom and compassion of the Buddha. It can also symbolize the endless cycle of life and eternal cycle of karma.
As the monk paints over part of the eternal knot, it doesn’t seem eternal anymore. Is breaking the eternal knot the only way to break the cycle of life and death?
