Winter

Art Description

An integral part of Bhutan’s identity is its vibrant architecture. And dogs. Dogs who can’t really be called strays because they are built to belong here, to survive the coldest winters and to make a home of the stupas and the prayer flags.

About the Artist

I am a full-time doctor at the Emergency Department at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu. Born and brought up in Thimphu, I was introduced to art by enthusiastic friends in high school who also encouraged me to join VAST Bhutan. It was there that I discovered the joy that creating brought.

As an artist I call myself reliably erratic. I can go months without creating a piece and one day I’ll decide to start and not move from my spot until I am surprised at how much  I have painted.

I love experimenting and combining mediums but my all-time favourite is watercolor. The vibrant colors and the uniqueness of most things Bhutanese are elements that I try to incorporate in most of my artworks but ever so often, I like to put a spin on them. In the past my works have been exhibited at the ‘Her Expression’ exhibitions organized by VAST Bhutan at Thimphu.

When I am not painting or saving lives, I can be found sweating it out at the gym, writing poems, enjoying my coffee or playing with my dogs.

Born 1987, from Thimphu
